What we do

WOF checks, car repairs & diagnostics in Onehunga

WOF checks

Warrant of fitness checks, with anything that needs fixing to get you through sorted on site.

More about WOF checks

All mechanical repairs

From the everyday jobs to the bigger ones. Tell us what's going on and we'll take a look.

Diagnostic scans

A light on the dash? A scan reads what the car is actually reporting, so nothing gets guessed at.

Warrant of fitness

WOF checks in Onehunga

A WOF covers brakes, tyres, lights, seatbelts, steering, suspension, the windscreen, wipers and rust. Since November 2026 it also checks driver-assistance warning lights. Most failures are small things like a blown bulb or a worn tyre, and anything that needs fixing can be sorted here.

Mechanical repairs

Car repairs and mechanical work

A new noise, a vibration, a leak or a slipping clutch? Bring it down and we'll take a look. Auckland's stop-start traffic is hard on brakes, clutches and cooling systems, and catching problems early is almost always cheaper.

Diagnostics

Diagnostic scans for warning lights

Modern cars store a record of their faults. A scan reads those codes and shows where the problem is, so you know whether it's urgent and any repair starts from evidence, not guesswork. It's worth doing even if the light has since gone off.

The WOF rules changed on 1 November 2026

  • New cars: second WOF at four years, not three.
  • Cars 4 to 14 years old: every two years, phased in by November 2027.
  • Cars over 14 years old: every year. Six-monthly WOFs are gone.
  • Imports: age counts from first registration anywhere in the world.

The fine for a WOF expired by more than two months is now $350. Not sure when yours is due? Check your windscreen label or call 0274 894 843.

Classic & older cars

Got a carburettor? Come and see us.

Older cars are welcome here. From old American muscle to old Japanese and European cars, the kind you can't just plug a scanner into. If it's got some years on it, bring it down to 17c Church Street.

America

Old American muscle

Big engines, big carburettors and plenty of character.

Japan

Old Japanese cars

The classics from before everything went electronic.

Europe

Old European cars

Older European cars, quirks and all.

About me

An A Grade mechanic, right here in Onehunga

I've been a mechanic in Onehunga ever since I finished my apprenticeship, with time spent working in the United States along the way. Coster Motors is my workshop at 17c Church Street.

I trained under New Zealand's original trade qualification system, and went a step beyond the standard qualification by also earning my A Grade.

Whether it's a WOF coming up, a warning light that won't go away, or an old carburettor car that needs some attention, give me a ring or send through a booking enquiry and I'll take it from there.

The workshop's an easy drop-off from Onehunga, Royal Oak, Te Papapa, Penrose, Mangere Bridge, One Tree Hill and Hillsborough, and handy to State Highway 20.
